The older you get, the more life will hit you with tough challenges, disease, death, loss of jobs, pandemics, wars, etc. Experiencing many of these life events within a brief time span, resulted in what I consider to be one big traumatic event in my life and the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, which led to the creation of On the Bright Side LLC. It seemed like before I had enough time to process one, I was hit with another. Through fitness, spirituality, mindset tools, community service, supplements, nutrition, and counseling, I began to heal. In many ways, I am still healing and getting a little better one day or step at a time.
On the Bright Side LLC provides resources and stories to enable you and demonstrate how investing more into your emotional and physical health can help you and your community. I’ve been diagnosed with melanoma twice. Reflecting upon my own mortality and the possibility that my time with my family and friends could be much shorter than the average lifespan, I made a choice to do everything possible to maximize and enrich the time with them, optimize my physical and mental health, and leave a legacy of resilience and a blueprint of perseverance, to receive and give the most out of this life you possibly can. To maximize you relationship with God and your own self-actualization. Hopefully, how I navigate my challenges sets a good example for others and gives them hope that in spite of the hardships they face, there is a silver lining.... a "Bright Side."
If you are at a point in your life like I was, unhappy and ready for a change, maybe questioning how the heck you got here, we hope and encourage you to make that change. In order to make significant changes in your life, you have to understand what shaped your mindset and actions that got you to where you are. You'll probably have to dig much deeper than recent events that brought you here and into your childhood and the path shaped by decisions you made, that led you to where you ended up. I've personally discovered that I've learned how to mask, numb, and compartmentalize a lifetime full of "trauma" that I've never fully dealt with. After embarking on that journey into my past, having a conversation with the young man and boy I used to be, forgiving him for the “mistakes” he’s made, I’ve found myself on a much more effective path and a mindset more effective at tackling the challenges that life brings, producing the outcomes I want, and ultimately bringing more personal peace and less conflict.
It’s important not to dismiss your own "traumas", but I have always attempted to balance negative thoughts and self-pity with the belief that no matter what you are going through, there is always someone who has been through worse and come out on top. Personally, perhaps the most important aspect of choosing that perspective is it’s always provided me hope that I can persevere. Regardless of the traumas you face, you can persevere. Within those hardships are valuable lessons that build resiliency and provide us with the tools for success. In the end, you must be accountable for your own actions and your place in life. Whether or not I knew how to deal with the traumas I’ve experienced, where I ended up is 100% a result of how I reacted to them. That’s both humbling and very empowering. I am not perfect; I still have much to learn regarding mental and physical health and wellness. I have had success in that area though, and I continually increase my knowledge and continue to grow.
I am a natural born observer of behavior which has been enhanced by a career in the security field and specific behavior-based training in human emotion and the physiological manifestation of that emotion. I have utilized mindset tools, and strategies that helped me to navigate years of challenges. Challenges including separation anxiety, professional “failures”, fears of both success and fears of failure, just frozen, unable to drive change and reacting to life. I’ve had 2 cancer diagnoses one of which had spread to lymph node, have had multiple pre-cancerous moles which seem to keep coming, obesity, high blood pressure, and watched my mother die 3 months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
I will be sharing more details of my personal experiences as On the Bright Side LLC evolves. First and foremost, for my children, my wife and extended family, and our community. I’d like to share the tools I’ve used, sharing the experts I’ve learned from and their insight into the health and wellness field, as well as your stories of triumph and resiliency. I hope we can enable others who face health and wellness challenges to realize they can change the aspects of their life that they are unhappy with, be more at peace, and in a better position to serve others and have a meaningful impact in our community. It’s an exciting journey and while it's not free of reservations and challenges, it’s backed by the beliefs that you never fail until you give up and no matter how small your strides are so long as they are in the right direction you are on the path to success. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. I’m looking forward to partnering with you to make a positive impact on our communities!
